![]() ![]() Measurement programs can facilitate a true engineering approach to software development, and specifically software product and process improvement, giving developers a competitive advantage over those who pursue more traditional approaches. Only with measurement-based frameworks can we approach anything like an engineering ethos in activities vital to effective software production that are, all too often, ill-defined and poorly managed. Yet without adequate quantitative support, we can’t readily comprehend, much less master, the complexities of software structure, testability, quality, reliability, or safety. 1-3 F We typically regard measurement as essential for project-but less so for process- management. or successful product and process definition, implementation, and evolution, developers increasingly look to software measurement techniques. They are also learning that the more integral software measurement is to the company’s underlying business strategy, the more likely it is to succeed. In seeking to improve software, companies are finding out how much is involved in measuring it. In this paper we present an outlook on the opportunities and challenges on semantic business process mining and monitoring, thus paving the way for the implementation of the next generation of BPM analysis tools. The use of semantic information can lead to dramatic enhancements in the state-of-the-art in analysis techniques. ![]() This analysis provides feedback about how these processes are actually being executed (like common control-flow paths, performance measures, detection of bottlenecks, alert to approaching deadlines, auditing, etc). An important step of the BPM life-cycle is the analysis of the processes deployed in companies. ![]() In a nutshell, SBPM is based on the extensive and exhaustive conceptualization of the BPM domain so as to support reasoning during business processes modelling, composition, execution, and analysis, leading to important enhancements throughout the life-cycle of business processes. Semantic Business Process Management (SBPM) has been proposed as an extension of BPM with Semantic Web and Semantic Web Services (SWS) technologies in order to increase and enhance the level of automation that can be achieved within the BPM life-cycle. ![]()
